There was a layer of linoleum, then a layer of wood, then another layer of linoleum, then another layer of wood followed by gobs of glue and seriously about 200 staples. Good times.

Not really, a layer of new linoleum, then some kind of backer board that splintered quite easily, then another layer of old linoleum, another layer of different kind of backerboard that was glued and stapled to the original hardwood floor. It took us like 10 hours to prepare a five foot by five foot space.
