His is pop with folk influences, I agree with that, but he is WAY different than Britney Spears!! Are you guys just basing your info on recent stuff or all of his work? -Natalie (Texas)
Is it bad that I have never heard of him? I think the only bands I listen to that are currently together are Flogging Molly and DMB or some trad Irish groups nobody knows. Sadly, the majority of popular music in the past 10 years has mostly been crap.
Even though I don't know who he is, he does get a plus for playing an instrument. I also didn't say he was crap because I can't call something I've never heard bad or good.
Trad is short for traditional, which when referring to Irish music makes a big difference. Flogging Molly, although super fun, it not traditional. My favorite more trad group at the moment is Lunasa. They are AMAZING!! You should check them out.
Pop music is an important genre of popular music distinguished from classical or art music and from folk music [1]. The term indicates specific stylistic traits but the genre also includes artists working in many styles (rock, hip hop, rhythm and blues (R&B), and country), and it is reasonable to say that "pop music" is a flexible category. It may also be referred to as soft rock or pop/rock.

He is a pop music artist with some folk influences, but no different than B. Spears.

He is a pop act. Just because you play a guitar doesn't make you a folk singer.
Did we ever solve your last household debate?

Sally, he's not crap. He's talented. He can actually sing and play an instrument.
BTW, maybe I'm the one out of the loop, but what does "trad" mean?

His stuff is pretty light and is popular. It is pop. Pop doesn't have to mean crappy. It is what it is.

I heard some other musician labeled as acoustic rock. I think this is what I have decided Jack Johnson is.
