Slimy

As I have said here before, I am not a real fan of most politicians. Most of my exposure to them happens at our annual Senate Dinner. One night every April, the people from the Missouri wine industry host a fancy dinner and invite the Missouri Senators. They scmooze, we schmooze, I throw up. Over the years I have come to loathe this dinner. I now only go for the food, which is prepared by Lou, the chef at Annie Gunns.

There is one senator that always goes out of his way to be friendly to me, Harry Kennedy. He represents a part of St. Louis very close to where I live. Harry spent one night with me a couple years ago at the Senate Dinner, introduced me to people, and talked to me all night. I remember he introduced me to one of the main bosses at Southwestern Bell, and I told her we had DSL.

The part I don't understand about most of these politicians, is that they don't seem to care about me and how I feel and stand on different issues. It seems like very bad public relation skills to me. If I was a senator, and the wine industry put on a nice meal, and served their wines, and I knew there were wineries in my district, I would seek them out and talk to them, and be as sweet as possible, but not fake. I guess this is why I am not a senator. The senator in Ste. Genevieve is Kevin Engler. He goes down in reputation every time I see him. At the Senate Dinner that we hosted a week ago today, we had an appetizer hour, a 5 course meal, and then a dessert hour, all paired with Missouri wines. Halfway through the dinner, Kevin Engler ordered a beer. He has no clue about manners whatsoever. I viewed this as a huge slap in the face. We all know I am not against beer, there is a time and a place, and a Missouri wine industry funded gourmet dinner is not the time or the place. So, if you live in the district in and around Ste. Gen, take my advice and don't vote for Kevin Engler.

I find it interesting that you would post such a irresponsible and uninformed comment. First most people who actually live in Ste. Genevieve and know Kevin are aware that he has a adverse reaction to wine. That being said, he is responsible for promoting more tourism then any other Senator to the wine country of Ste. Genevieve. Having hosted and sponsored several functions and events, Ste Genevieve businesses have realized thousands of dollars in resulting sales. He was also responsible for supporting and co-sponsoring a bill termed "Merlot to Go" which allowed for transportation of open bottles of wine. Harry Kennedy has done nothing to promote- much less take time to visit the area. Most Politicians attend these events to show support. perhaps if you lived in the area we could believe you really care.

Oh look, someone has piped up in defense of Kevin. Took them 7 months to do it, so it went unnoticed. John would have a hay day with this comment, he is always stirring the pot on other websites. I think he has a gene that likes to debate. Anyway, I shouldn't even comment back, but this is my blog, and I can do whatever I like, so here goes. First of all, I'm always annoyed with people who sign in anonymously. If you have an opinion, stand up and be proud of that viewpoint. Second of all, "adverse reaction?" What does that mean? It means he can somehow drink beer and not wine? And now you're telling me that everyone who lives in Ste. Genevieve knows Kevin has this "adverse reaction?" If he is so open about it, why wouldn't he want to tell me, the one wining and dining him on that evening? Sounds like a freeloader to me. Third of all, IF he has this "adverse reaction" to wine, then maybe his manners would have shown through if he had choosen to not drink at all. Anyone at that dinner knew that beer was not the appropriate drink of the evening. Fourth of all, I don't see what living in Ste. Genevieve has to do with any of this. I never said he didn't support Ste. Genevieve tourism, I said he was rude to me, and rude to the wine industry. He is new, he is green, and he made a rookie mistake. He was at the dinner the year before also, and he told me he would only be there a little while because he'd much rather be working out. From my point of view, no matter where I call home, Kevin Engler needs to go to etiquette school.

I'm with you Elaine, in my opinion ALL, not most, but ALL politicians are in office only because there is no way in hell any of them can hold a real job. Yes I said REAL job. Not kissing every ass you see and in this particular case, a person who is too damned stupid/clueless/tactless to realize even what type of event he is attending. Just think, if he is this clueless at a dinner, makes you wonder if he can find the senate men's room without having to ask directions.
And another point, everyone has an adverse reaction to wine...You drink a bunch of it and your reactions are adverse.
