Solve Our Household Debate

Do you think John is proud of being from Poplar Bluff?

O.k. The real question is; Do you think you can be proud of something that defines you that you did not have a direct choice in making? Like, can John be proud of being from Poplar Bluff even though he did not make the choice to live there?

I'd say even if he claims he is proud to be from Poplar Bluff he doesn't currently live there, so the statement must be false!

It's obvious that Poplar Bluff made John the man he is today, and he can be proud of that. So...yes, he can be proud to be from Poplar Bluff. I'm sure The Bluff is proud of John.

Michael, thank you for the kind words.....

Let's get one thing straight here. Elaine has worded the question in a very decieving manner. I have made the assertion that it is silly to be proud of something that you didn't work to achieve. She has worded it to look like she is the one making that claim.
I am proud of things that I have worked to accomplish, but why be proud of something you had no control over?
I am not proud to be from Poplar Bluff, nor am I ashamed. I am lucky to be from Poplar Bluff, because it is a kick ass town with recent back to back Class 5A state basketball championships.

    that's a good reason...john,
do you even know anyone on the bball team? did you contribute to their victory in any way? go to a game even?
elaine, are you lucky to be from ste. gen cuz valle was state champs, like, ten times in the last 20+ years? bet your brothers were maybe even on the teams back in the day? how lucky.
    just wondering...

    Lighten up Francis.

well, mr. anonymous, I never said I was proud to be from PB because of the basketball team..I did say I was simply lucky to have been from PB. I never made the claim that I had anything to do at all with the team, thus my point is made. If you happened to play on a team that won a state championship, then you should be proud of that. This is exactly what I'm saying. In your attempt to discredit me, you have only proven my point, so I thank you.
What is there to be proud of if you have not done something to earn the right to be proud? If something good happens and you are just there, you are lucky.
