Cheap Entertainment

I know this is a stupid thing to be excited about, but tonight I fed Cecilia asparagus that I grew. That's pretty cool. Without being too much of a hippy, I plan to make as much baby food as possible. And the fact that it came out of my garden is even more exhilirating. I have in ice cube trays in the freezer more asparagus and pears. Pretty exciting.
This picture was taken Friday night when I tried to give her avocado. Tried is the operative word there, because unlike the asparagus that she got tonight, she did not like the avocado. They say that a kid has to try a food 10 times before you can know for sure they do or do not like that food, so here's to more funny faces like this one as she tries avocado 9 more times.

Cousin Will

Cecilia had an excellent time meeting her Aunt Melissa, and her cousin, Will. Will is a little over 2, and he was teaching her all his toddler secrets. He was really sweet to her, always wanting to hold Baby Celia. Can't wait to see them again!

Doesn't Matter if It's Black or White

Here are a few more pictures from the Baptism. The priest did this really cool thing where John and I got to pour water on her head also. He said, "I baptize you in the name of the Father," and then gave the little dish full of water to me, and I poured water on her head and said, "and the Son," and then John did the same thing and said, "And the Holy Spirit." It was a really nice part of the ceremony. I got water in her eyes (whoops!) but other than that Cecilia didn't mind at all.

All these pictures were taken by Amanda and the pictures from the other post were taken by Chuck.

Thanks to both picture takers.

Christening

Cecilia was baptized on Sunday. Her outfit is most special because my mom made it for the grandchildren out of her wedding dress. John's sister, Melissa, along with my sister Christy and her husband Jerry are Cecilia's godparents. The priest did an excellent job, I think it was the nicest baptism I have ever attended. You know it's good when you cry (although it's not hard to make me cry lately.)

Out of curiosity

I'm not talking a couple extra packages of meat in your freezer. I'm talking extra bottled water, canned food, flashlights, radio, matches, whistle, etc.

Born to be a mom

This picture on the front of this card pretty much sums up my childhood. I bought this picture years ago and used to have it hanging in my room in Fresno. I came across it over the weekend while cleaning out the upstairs spare bedroom.

I spent many days of my life dressing up farm cats and pretending they were my babies.

Guess I was always meant to be a mom.

Dear Cecilia,
Thank you so much for turning Mother's Day into a happy day for me again. You bring such joy to my life. I am so happy to be your mom. I hope you will always be happy that I am your mom also.
Love,
Mama

Welcome to Motherhood

I'm frustrated with what I can not get done lately. The house seems to constantly be a mess, the laundry multiplies overnight, and I can't keep up with the dirty dishes (even with the new dishwasher.) The fancy space heater that we bought for Cecilia's room broke sometime many months ago, and it still sits in the corner of the office. The baptism invitations that I bought for us to print out and send still sit in their original packaging. Photographs were framed and never hung. The junk mail is taking over the entryway. The "To-Do" list that I made over a month ago still has items not crossed off. And, I'm exhausted all the time.

Cecilia is thriving and gets loads of attention, and she's too fun to even try to explain it to you, but she is also draining. Just keeping it real over here.

The voice in my head is beating you to the punchline, "Get over it you big whiner. This is motherhood; all the fun and all the exhaustion wrapped up in one little swaddled package."
